The 2001 Outbreak of Foot and Mouth, and how it impacted on flying activities in SE Wales

The 2001 Outbreak of Foot and Mouth

During the devastating outbreak of Foot & Mouth in 2001 there were 118 cases in Wales.

The last case of Foot & Mouth in Wales was confirmed on Sunday 12 August 2001.

During the outbreak all flying was suspended and sites temporarily closed. The Club remained in close contact with landowners and graziers throughout the crisis, and as particular areas were given the "all clear" flying sites were slowly re-opened.

Re-opened SE Wales sites were initially subject to additional rules, which have since been lifted. The following table maps the lengthy process of re-opening those sites.
