Free Flight - Vol Libre - Hedfan Rhydd
« 11 March 21:47 » cheers jeremy and forest for the advice. All booked now, so hopefully i'll get some hours in
« 11 March 20:33 » Heol Senni provided the Scumdogs with some amusing flying today -- Yeehaaa
« 11 March 19:14 » Re. Flying near Malaga. - just to add to what Jeremy has already said; Algodonales is a fantastic place to fly and if you are looking to develop, practice or just go XC then I'd suggest that Baz Rhodes of http://www.andalucian-experience.co.uk is a better option for you than Fly Spain. Fly Spain are great for pilots that are completing or have just passed their CP but if you are already beyond that level then I'd really recommend hooking up with Baz. If you don't want a guide but just want to free fly for a few days then get to Algo the night before and find a bar called JJs and Johan will sort you out accommodation, tell you where to fly and you ought to be able to hook up with some other free flyers to share lifts. But you will definitely get more time in the air if you hook up with Baz.
« 11 March 18:29 » hiya, well it isnt looking so hopeful this weekedn, unless the post front drops the wind on saturday. i am away this weekend anyway so am not able to run a "return to flying" clinic. i have had an email from the avon clun martin nichols offering for any cp or pilot with 1 to 2 years under their belt to join their xc clinics over the season. they are hoping ot do some relaxed sessions that dont involve competitions for anyone who wants ot get ready for their pilots rating, or who just wants to going xc without the comp stress.
« 11 March 17:50 » A shorter distance is Valle de Abdalajis (1hr away near Antiquera in the direction of Granada) and you can probably freefly without a guide there. Google earth co-ords for the town are 36deg 55.938min N 4deg 40.840min W The hill behind the town has a NW T/O, N/NE T/O , and SE T/O. I went to the flying school in the town but it was shut and I just followed a van that went past with a hangie on top to the SE t/o. The locals were very helpful and the area is quite picturesque, hire car got to T/O OK. I can give you co-ordinates for the three t/o's if you want, it's very user friendly, just talk to the locals and only fly if they do. Can't really speak about coastal flying. There's also a no for a local school guide in Villanueva del Trabucco, that's Antonio on 0034 669081915 but I've only been able to get his answerphone. If you take the Antiquera option just freefly.
« 11 March 17:35 » Hi Paul, flying Malaga region: Well Algadonales is 2hrs away and great flying. Rob Mansley is their CFI his spanish No 0034 651736 718 and web address www.flyspain.co.uk . He's a great instructor and guide and will take you to T/O retrieve etc for a daily fly/guide fee but you'll need an early start if you're there and back in a day. If you have a non-flyer with you take a picnic and take in Rondo on the way back or better still saty over the night and get two days out of it .
« 10 March 22:52 » Anyone have any experience of flying in the malaga region? Possibly going to be there at the end of march
« 10 March 07:37 » If anything it shows how sofisticated the modern flight analysis software is: (the xc league table is getting more and more triangle flights as a relatively short into wind leg can turn an out and return into a significant scoring flight because of the multiplier)
« 9 March 22:48 » Steve, you're right about the inversion. I was confused by the early clouds as rasp seemed to indicate a blue day (was eventually, I know)
« 9 March 22:02 » Flight starts just before 1200 , which is when most of us were sitting out the windiest bit, and the bulk of the flight seems to have been over 2000'. Nice flight in difficult conditions to get to the Bluff.
« 9 March 20:52 » Looks like a ridge run to me apart from one bit where he pushed out a bit
« 9 March 19:27 » I got to 2650' and seemed to be at, or just below, inversion height (brown haze level) so he might have got a core and gone slightly through it ?
« 9 March 19:16 » also shows max hight as 2923ft so RASP was right about the inversion at 3000ft.
« 9 March 19:13 » have a look at this flight made on sunday by an avon member, its a milk run to hay bluff and back but some how scores as a flat triangle for 40k ! http://www.xcleague.com/xc/flights/2010100.html?vx=0
« 9 March 18:33 » I dont see why not it was better when we left the tyres had made it into smooth mud and flattend it down nicely. if the farmer had not put the feeders in the way we all could of just turned down hill and gon out the bottom gate.
« 9 March 18:13 » Any idea how things stand at Pandy with the parking field??? People were saying we should not have used it but nothing was posted, either on the forum OR on the gate.
« 9 March 18:11 » Very relieved Jer, glad I didn't throw out the bag to be recycled!!!
« 9 March 17:07 » Nice one Norris; Bet you're V relieved .
« 9 March 10:59 » I've found my vario!!!!! It had fallen out of my rucksack into a bag of recycling paper!!!!
« 8 March 18:28 » I’ve not heard anything more about it, I expect the farmer Just wanted to reseed the field this year and keep us off it for a couple of months until grass grow back.
« 8 March 12:10 » Any feedback on the Pandy mess on Sunday? I can really see why you have set up members only for the site! Hope the locals arent too pissed off
« 7 March 20:06 » sounds like a good technique to learn..... flat field here i come
« 7 March 19:36 » High wind launch technique (Mitsos launch A's & C's ) is described and recommended by Bruce Goldsmith at http://www.flyaboveall.com/mitsos.htm It's well worth giving it a go and can only increase your airtime and safety at launch.
« 7 March 18:44 » Yesterday, Saturday I mis placed my vario on Pontlottyn. It is an orange digiflyer in a black case with velcro straps. There is a hole in the side of the case for a speed probe and my Name and postcode are on the vario. Anyone found it????
« 7 March 09:00 » Hopefully with sub-zero temperatures the field will be frozen solid ?

Hello, well the autumn/winter has been pretty dismal, and I guess everyone is feeling it like me too, judging by the shoutbox. well done norris and cookie for persevering in this weather. I decided to take the advice of another pilot and set up some practical xc clinics over the month of march, just to get us into a safe and confident pattern as the weather turns and becomes...

Pandy parking field
posted by Reech
on Sat 6 Feb 19:09

Just been to Pandy and noticed the parking field is a quagmire! Have a look at the attached photo. Just out of shot to the right of the entrance is a number of sheep feeders that block access to the field to the right of the gate........

Reech

See how modern day hang gliders and paragliders have turned the dream of Icarus into reality.

So come on in, and find out more about the world of hang gliding & paragliding.

See how easy it is to learn to fly a modern hang glider or paraglider (delta ou parapente en français) at a British Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association (BHPA) registered school.

Read how experienced hang glider and paraglider pilots can today use their wings to climb up to 4 miles (6.4 Km) high, and cover distances in excess of 300 miles (482 Km), with no power save the movement of the atmosphere.

Check out the flying sites of South East Wales, some of the best hang gliding and paragliding sites in Wales and the UK.

When you‘ve been flying your hang glider or paraglider for a while, and gained the necessary experience, you may wish to consider adding an engine to your wing.

Most UK hang gliding and paragliding schools have experience of powered hang gliders (PHG) or powered paragliders (PPG or paramotors), and can help you gain the additional flying skills required, and advice on the most appropriate kit to purchase.

The South East Wales Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club has 19 flying sites.

Eight of these are "Open" and can be flown by any suitably qualified and insured hang glider or paraglider pilot, the remainder are "Members Only".

Visiting pilots are welcome on any of our "Open" sites provided they meet the minimum rating requirement for that site and carry adequate third party insurance. UK pilots must be members of the BHPA.

Unless otherwise stated in the SE Wales Sites Guide, our "Members Only" sites can only be flown by members of the SE Wales Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club.

The majority of our "Members Only" sites can also be flown by members of the Welsh Free Flight Federation, please see the SE Wales Sites Guide for further information.
